Pacman & Jet Li - San Miguel Beer Commercial

Filipino Boxing sensation Manny Pacquiao and the world famous Chinese actor Jet Li teamed up to shoot a San Miguel Beer Commercial in the Philippines. This might not be news to you, but if you haven't seen the commercial, then its worth watching. Its great to know that Manny Pacquiao is on the same level as Jet Li as far as popularity is concerned.

I have not doubt in my mind that Manny Pacquiao will come out victorious on his rematch with the baby face assassin Marco Antonio Barrera on Oct 6. More about this news later in the month.

If you ask me though, I prefer the tagalog speaking Erik Morales commercial. Walang katulad!

June 2007 Nursing Board Exam Results

48% Pass Nursing Exams

Manila, Philippines -- Congratulations to the 31,000 new nurses, including those who took the retook the nursing licensure examination because of the cheating allegation.

Out of the 64,909 takers, (first-timers, repeaters and voluntary “retakers,”) 31,275 -- or 48 percent -- passed the exam given by the Professional Regulation Commission’s Board of Nursing (BON).

The voluntary “retakers” were those who had passed the June 2006 nursing board exam but decided to retake all the five tests. They signed a waiver in order to give up their 2006 licenses so they could take the tests again.

But the results of Test III (Medical-Surgical Nursing) and Test V (Psychiatric Nursing) taken by some 13,000 nursing graduates from the June 2006 batch were not announced by the PRC. The two tests were the ones affected by the leakage.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will announce the results Tuesday, according to a DOLE information officer.

The 13,000 nursing graduates, who passed the June 2006 licensure exam, voluntarily decided to retake Tests III and V in order to comply with a requirement of the United States-based Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS).

The CGFNS, which screens applicants to the United States, had said that it would not issue VisaScreen certificates to June 2006 nursing board passers unless they retook Tests III and V.

Topnotcher and top schools

Darlyn Chutuape of Our Lady of Fatima University-Valenzuela got the highest score of 88 percent.

The top-performing schools with 30 to 99 examinees were University of the Philippines-Manila and Philippine Christian University-Manila, which both got a 100-percent passing rate.

Rounding out the top performers in the same category were University of Cebu in Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue, and Universidad de Manila (City College of Manila), which got passing rates of 92 and 90 percent, respectively.

Of the schools with more than 99 examinees, Trinity University of Asia, Saint Louis University and St. Paul University-Iloilo all had a 99-percent passing rate.

These were followed closely by University of Santo Tomas (UST), with a 98-percent passing rate. Of the top-performers, UST also had the highest number of examinees at 587.

University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center, West Visayas State University-La Paz and Saint Paul College of Manila all got a 97-percent passing rate.

Oath-taking on Oct. 2

The oath-taking for the passers is scheduled for Oct. 2 at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City -- 8 a.m. for surnames starting with A to J; 1 p.m. for surnames starting with K to Z.

The leakage controversy that marred the June 2006 nursing licensure exam had divided the graduates, schools and licensed nurses into those who called for a retake, and those against it.

A group of nursing students and nursing schools had asked the court to stop the oath-taking of those who passed the tainted licensure exam and order a retake of the exam.

The leakage also put a stigma on the June 2006 passers, with some hospitals refusing to accept them.

The CGFNS requirement for the retake was a result of the controversy.

A CGFNS representative was sent to Baguio in June to monitor the conduct of the examination. Representatives of the US-based group also monitored the exams in Manila.

2 Top Tens for the Philippines

Oh Wait! Most corrupt Leaders list? I should have known. 2 Positive Top Tens for the Philippines seems a little too much to ask. Here a little story that came out from today.

It has been 21 years since that fateful day in February, 1986 when Ferdinand Marcos, preparing to flee Malacanang Palace, Marcos declaring Martial Law on September 21, 1972made a call to his former Defense Secretary, Juan Ponce Enrile to ask for "safe passage" for himself and his family, so they could safely leave the city for Clark Air Base in Pampanga.

What a difference two decades make! On July the seventh of this year (07/07/07), the Marcoses launched 7 books about the former dictator, and inaugurated the Marcos Presidential Center, in a desperate effort at rehabilitating his image with the public. If that wasn't enough, the Marcoses are now claiming that the late strongman was in fact the owner of many of the largest corporations in the Philippines. They assert that Ferdinand had temporarily "entrusted" his corporate holdings to friends and cronies. Now the family wants those holdings back.
Thats Philippine Politics in a nutshell! I label this post "OUTRAGEOUS"

Aliya Parcs

Born and raised in The Netherlands to a Dutch father and a Filipina mother, Aliya first sang in public at the age of four. She would since regularly sing in various school presentations and Filipino community affairs. In school her main sports were tennis and soccer although she never said no to any indoor game or other outdoor sports.

She finished an abridged course in Administration. At seventeen, Aliya was Holland's representative to the 1997 Euro-Santa Cruzan celebration held that year in London. She and 13 other European country representatives were presented in a gala evening affair before gracing the next day's grand procession in the main streets of London.

But it is Aliya's love for music and singing which gradually became her focus. As a child she took six years of basic piano and jazz ballet lessons. Once a week during college she would go to a neighboring town by bike to take informal voice lessons from a professional musician and jingles composer who was also the guitarist of a well-known Dutch lady singer. In the small recording studio at the back of his house Aliya would often observe and tinker along. Occasionally she also did on-cam assisting jobs for a Dutch variety tv show. When her parents decided to put up business in the Philippines, it took a mean amount of convincing for her to come along. She finally agreed on a promise to allow her to go back to Holland after two years if she still wanted to.

Manila Celebrities and Movie Stars

In Manila, celebrities and movie stars are treated very highly. Im sure we are all in awe when we see a mega star like "tom cruise". Im sure he is treated nicely by his fans.

So whats the difference? Well Manila celebrities and movie stars will most likely win in an election if they run for office. Philippines always had this trend since the beginning. Blame it on television and theater presence. Movie stars and celebrities will more likely be recognized by the majority of people than their opponents. Since the Philippines is a democratic form of government, then popularity is king.

Enough about this political mumbo jumbo. I too, love Filipino celebrities and movie stars. Lets get started and get the run down on their personal and private lives, shall we.
